Film 014 - Let The Right One In (2008)

'Låt den Rätte Komma In'

Director - Tomas Alfredson

"Eli is 12 years old. She's been 12 for over 200 years and, she just moved in next door"

Oskar is a lonely kid from a broken family who is bullied at school but finds friendship with the new ‘girl’ next-door.

Be warned – this no Twilight for Tweenies! Having watched ‘Tinker Tailor Solider Spy’ the other week I was looking forward to seeing this, Tomas Alfredson’s previous movie, and I wasn’t disappointed. His skill at framing a shot and expressing feeling through silence is present once again. More importantly, to paraphrase what Mark Kermode said about ‘Tinker Taylor’, although this was a film with vampires it’s not a film about vampires. Instead it’s about people who for whatever reason are forced to live in a cold cruel world. A world where the person that shows the most compassion towards Oskar isn’t even human. It also reminded me why it’s good to keep a cat or two around the house...

Best scene – Eli under the bridge when she first pops out for a bite to eat...

The Big List – 26 seen
